Boom! is an intelligent search assistent that allows you to search more efficiently. It will analyze whatever it is that you are searching for and direct you to the search engine that is most likely to give you the best result.
If you search for "books by Dan Brown", it will not search on Google but instead move you directly to Amazon. Similarly, if you search for "pancake recipes" it will move you directly to "All Recipes" or if you want to find a hotel in Boston, simply search for "locate hotels in Boston" and it will search using Google Maps.
Note: if Boom! cannot find a better alternative, it will simply use Google as you are used to.
This, in short, is what types of searches it currently supports (click on each link to see how it works):
It also supports searching on popular social networks like Facebook, MySpace and Linked-In.
And, more is coming!
Simply type what you want to search for, and Boom! will do the rest. It is that easy!
But, in case you want more control you can use the following "commands" to force Boom! in a specific direction:
Type in any name in front of what you are looking and Boom will search using that.
E.g. type "yahoo usability patterns" and Boom! will search Yahoo! for "usability patterns".
The supported search engines are: Google, Yahoo, Live, Wikipedia, Amazon, Flickr, YouTube, Stage6, Ebay, Microsoft, Apple, GMail, Technorati, Facebook, IMDB, Linked-In (and more is coming)
You can also direct Boom! to do a special search. Use:
e.g. if you search for "map New York to Boston" you get driving directions from Google Maps. And if you search for "Author Dan Brown", you will find all Dan Browns book on Amazon.
Apart from searching by command, Boom! also include a natural language processor. It will try to figure out what you mean, even when you do not use a specific command - e.g. if you search for "where is the CN Tower" Boom! will show you where that is.
Installing Boom! as your default search engine is great, because then you do not even have to visit the site first. Just type in whatever you are looking for - and you will go directly to the most appropriate search result. You will never even have to see Boom!
Just click on the install button below and you are set. You can always change it later.
Things to come (or might come)...
